Escrito por, Artur Martins Freitas Artur Martins Freitas May 23, 1915 – Sept. 11, 2006 Resident of Pleasanton Born in Vila Ruiva, district of Guarda, Portugal, Artur M. Freitas passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Artur immigrated to Manteca, California in 1959 and worked as a pruner at Gallo Winery. He also worked as a custodian for Spreckle’s Sugar Company and the Manteca Unified School District. Artur was very talented in sculpting wood carvings, for which he won many awards. He also wrote beautiful religious poems. Artur also enjoyed attending local Portuguese Festas and prayer groups. Artur lived a healthy and full life and he was proud that at 91, he was still able to drive by himself to all his functions, proudly mentioning how he never got a ticket. He leaves to cherish his precious memory: his daughter, Fatima, his son-in-law, Jose, his granddaughter, Cecilia and her husband Tony. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 18th at 10:00 am. St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Pleasanton.
